MotorTach collects no personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party SDK. The app contains no networking code, so it cannot transmit anything anywhere.
Everything below describes data that stays on your device.
MotorTach measures a motor's speed and load from the sound it makes, so it needs microphone access while a reading is running. iOS will ask your permission the first time; you can withdraw it at any time in Settings.
Audio is analyzed on your iPhone as it arrives. It is not uploaded, and it is not sent to us or to anyone else.
The most recent 15 seconds of sound are held in memory so you can listen back to a reading immediately after taking it. That buffer is discarded when you start a new reading or leave the app, unless you choose to save the recording.
When you tap Save, MotorTach writes that recording to your iPhone's private app storage, along with the reading and the motor settings it was taken under. Saved recordings are never uploaded, are not visible in the Files app, and are not readable by other apps.
They leave your phone only if you decide to send one. Swiping a card in Recordings and choosing Share packages that single recording (its audio, a text summary of the reading and motor settings, and the minute of diagnostics log leading up to it) and hands the package to an app you choose, such as Mail, Messages or AirDrop. MotorTach does not pick the recipient, does not send anything on its own, and shares nothing beyond the card you picked. Where it goes after that is governed by whichever app you handed it to.
Deleting a recording removes the audio with it. Deleting MotorTach removes all of them.
The nameplate values you enter, your saved motors, and your calibration are stored on the device so you don't have to re-enter them. They never leave it.
MotorTach keeps a small technical log on the device to help improve its measurement algorithm. It contains numbers only: measurement outcomes, signal strengths and frequency data. It contains no audio and no personal information.
This log stays on your phone. It leaves only if you choose to send it, using the share button in the app's Help screen. If you send one, we use it solely to diagnose and improve measurement accuracy, and we do not combine it with anything else, because there is nothing else to combine it with.
If you tap Capture, MotorTach saves a picture of the current reading to your photo library. This is add-only access. The app never reads or browses your photos.
You can attach a photograph of a motor's nameplate to that motor, either by taking one with the camera or by choosing an existing picture. The camera is used for nothing else, and MotorTach never opens your photo library on its own. When you choose an existing picture, the system picker runs outside the app and hands back only the one image you selected.
Every nameplate photo is re-encoded when it is saved. That deliberately drops the location, capture time and camera details your camera would otherwise attach to it, so the picture carries what the plate says and not where you were standing.
Nameplate photos are stored on the device, in the app's private storage rather than anywhere visible to the Files app. Deleting a motor deletes its photograph. A nameplate photo is included when you share a recording of that motor. A shared file therefore contains a picture of that equipment, which the app tells you on the screen where you take it, in Help, and in the shared file itself.
MotorTach is a tool for working on industrial and household machinery. It is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, including children.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date at the top. Any change that affected what data leaves your device would also be reflected in the app itself.
